Privacy — standardized academic dating
This policy covers standardized academic dating ("sad2"), the mental-math ranking game at unseriousventures.com/sad2. Unlike the rest of the marketing site, this project does collect and store personal data, described below. The general site privacy policy covers everything else.
What We Collect
- Email address. Used to verify you are a real person (a one-time code) and as the key that ties all your attempts to one identity. Your email is never shown publicly. It is revealed to another user only when you and that user have mutually liked each other (a match) — that is the entire point of a match.
- Chosen handle. A display name you pick. It is public — shown to everyone ranked at or below you. Do not use your real name unless you want it public.
- Your score and rank. Derived from the 120-second test. Your rank position is public; your numeric score is shown on your card to people who can see you.
- LinkedIn (optional). If you sign in with LinkedIn, we store the verified account identifier and your name, revealed only on a mutual match. If you instead type a LinkedIn URL on the email path, it is stored but only shown when verified.
- Gameplay timing. Coarse answer-pacing data from your run, used to detect automated cheating. Not shared.
- A session cookie (
sad2_session), first-party, so you stay signed in. No third-party or advertising cookies, no analytics, no tracking pixels.
What We Do Not Do
We do not sell your data, run ads, share data with advertisers, or use third-party analytics. Email is used only for the verification code and the match reveal. Standard Cloudflare server logs apply as described in the site policy.
Retention & Deletion
You can ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time. Email hello@unseriousventures.com from the address you signed up with, or describe your handle, and we will delete your record. Note that because each email is one identity, deleting it frees that email to register again as a fresh identity.
Eligibility
You must be 18 or older to verify and play. The game reveals contact information between matched users and is not intended for minors.
Reporting
To report a handle that impersonates, harasses, or otherwise doesn't belong, email hello@unseriousventures.com. We remove handles and hide users at our discretion.
Note on the Concept
standardized academic dating is a satirical project — a parody of desirability leaderboards, standardized testing, and dating culture. Ranks are a bit, not a judgment of any real person's worth.
Changes
If we update this policy, the "Last updated" date will change.
